The Office for Budget Responsibility has apologised and launched an investigation after its economic and fiscal outlook document was published early ahead of the Budget, describing it as a “technical error”.

Just ahead of the Chancellor Rachel Reeves setting out her statement, details of the budget were revealed.

In an unprecedented mistake, the watchdog disclosed the contents of the Chancellor’s Budget as it published its economic and fiscal outlook just before Sir Keir Starmer got to his feet in the House of Commons for PMQs.
