The Colorado Department of Corrections on Tuesday refuted a claim by an attorney for former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters that Peters was put in solitary confinement late last week.

A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections said that although Peters was removed from the general population of the La Vista Correctional Facility, where she is serving an eight-year, nine-month sentence, she was not placed in solitary confinement.

On Nov. 21, attorney John Case filed a document in Peters’ federal habeas corpus case requesting she be released from custody because of concerns about her health and safety.
