Federal funding that Calgary receives for housing is in jeopardy as some on the city’s new council, including the mayor, look to repeal blanket rezoning.

An email obtained by CityNews sent from city administration to members on council Friday, states that “$129 million in future installments of HAF (Housing Accelerator Fund) funding are paused pending further clarity on the status of citywide rezoning.”

The email further warns that if there isn’t clarity by March 31, 2026, the city’s third installment payment of $64 million would not be given.

The development came after city administration met with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the body that administers the Housing Accelerator Fund.
