SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The man serving life in prison for the 1997 Sarasota murder of Sheila Bellush has been denied a motion to throw out his sentence.
Jose Luis Del Toro filed the motion earlier this year, arguing an extradition agreement between the Mexican government and the U.S. was not followed.
In November 1997, Bellush’s ex-husband Allen Blackthorn in a bitter custody dispute over their two older daughters.
Blackthorn plotted with De Toro and two other men, Sammy Gonzalez and Daniel Rocha, to kill Bellush.
Del Toro traveled from Texas to Sarasota, breaking into Bellush’s home where he shot her and slit her throat.
Her 2-year-old quadruplets, which were born during her subsequent marriage to Jamie Bellush, were in the home when she was killed. Her 12-year-old daughter came hom
