A ground stop was issued at O'Hare International Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving holiday .
The ground stop took effect around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and continues through 10 a.m. CT, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It involves certain flights departing to Chicago.
"Departures to Chicago OHare International are grounded due to snow or ice," the FAA said in its alert.
The ground stop applies to departures from Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Omaha, warning of severe icing on final descent into O'Hare. Meanwhile, aircraft departing from Minneapolis-St Paul International/Wold-Chamberlain were "being sprayed with deicing fluid to remove snow and ice," the FAA reported.
The FAA warned that the ground stop could be extended depending on conditions.
