An investigation is underway in suburban Wauconda after a car at an auto shop fell off a lift and fatally crushed a worker who was underneath, authorities said.

About 8:52 a.m. Tuesday, the Wauconda Police Department and the Wauconda Fire District responded to a call for a person trapped under a vehicle at business located at 398 Liberty St., Unit D. When they arrived, officers found a 37-year-old pinned under the front end of a car.

Authorities were able to lift the car and extricate the man, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The vehicle was up on a lift at a height of about five feet when the rear end came off, police said. The man was unable to get out from under car before the front end also came off the lift, police said, leaving him crushed beneath.
