A Connecticut man is accused of chasing another driver, causing the driver to crash into a pile of rocks, and then trying to get into the victim’s vehicle, authorities said.
Michael Bonelli, 37, of East Lyme, is facing several charges following the alleged chase on Tuesday, authorities said.
Witnesses called East Lyme police around 8:30 a.m. to report two vehicles speeding through local roads. The victim’s car smashed through a fence and swerved around multiple pedestrians before slamming into rocks on Beach Avenue, where it became disabled, authorities said.
Bonelli, who was in the trailing vehicle, got out and began trying to pull open the victim’s car door to get inside, East Lyme police said. Officers arrested him before he could get inside.
Bonelli was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, following with the intent to harass, breach of peace, and possession of a controlled substance, East Lyme police said. He was held on a $100,000 bond.
