Detroit — The Detroit City Football Club's goal to transform a forlorn stretch of southwest Detroit into a new stadium and other developments took a step forward this week.

The Detroit City Council on Tuesday approved a "community benefits agreement" and a tax subsidy that will allow the soccer club's estimated $198 million plan to continue. The Detroit City FC , who play in the USL Championship league, aims build a 15,000-seat stadium, a 421-space parking deck and a 76-unit apartment building with affordable housing on the site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital and surrounding blocks.
