A Virginia woman is trying to keep her home while grieving the sudden loss of the man she had just moved in with.
Fairfax resident Rachel Donders is picking up the pieces after she suffered an unimaginable loss when her partner, Trevor, died from suicide — just two months after the pair moved in together.
"My world changed completely when my partner passed away," she said, describing him as “the most selfless, kind, and loving person I have ever known.”
Donders said that before his death, Trevor was the primary bread-winner for the couple.
She also wrote that she was on his health insurance. After his death, she said she was left “not only heartbroken but also facing serious financial uncertainty.”
Donders said the thought of losing her home on top of her grief “feels impossible to manage right now.”
On her GoFundMe, Donders said she is seeking support to help cover rent so she can finish her lease and have stability while she mourns. She wrote that “having a safe place to stay will give me the space and time I need to process this loss and begin to heal.”
Members of the Bethesda Little Theatre posted that she had experienced “an unimaginable personal loss” and said the community hopes to lift some of her burden by offering “care, compassion, and practical support," while throwing their support behind the fundraiser.
Supporters can find the GoFundMe campaign here.
"Any help you can offer—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing my story—would mean so much to me," she said. "Thank you for considering supporting me during this incredibly difficult time."
"Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference as I work to rebuild and find hope again."
