A former University of Missouri police officer is suing the UM System Board of Curators, alleging the department violated Missouri law and his constitutional rights when it terminated him earlier this year while he was deployed overseas with the Missouri National Guard.

In a petition filed Nov. 25 in 13th Circuit Court, Jakob Wetter argues the MU Police Department failed to follow the state’s “Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights” during an internal investigation that led to his firing. Wetter claims MU missed required deadlines, denied him access to counsel and never provided the due-process hearing that state law mandates.
