MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — An 81-year-old man died from his injuries after first responders were called to a home in Surry County earlier this month, and investigators have now ruled his death a homicide.

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office says EMS crews and deputies responded to a reported medical emergency on Friday, Nov. 14, at a home on Pine Tree Trail in Mount Airy. When they arrived, they found Robert Lovill III suffering from injuries.

Lovill was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, where he later died.

An autopsy determined Lovill’s death was a homicide, according to the sheriff’s office.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting Surry County investigators as they continue to search for answers. No additional details have been released.
