EUGENE, Ore. - Americans generate significantly more waste in December, with an increase of 36 pounds per person compared to other months. This extra waste is roughly the equivalent of seven computer monitors for each individual.
To combat this surge, Waste Wise Lane County is hosting its annual "Simplify the Holidays" campaign. The initiative encourages families to rethink their holiday traditions and opt for more meaningful, low-impact celebrations.
A highlight of this campaign is the "Holiday Leftover Recipe Contest," now in its third year. Participants can win prizes such as gift certificates and workshop enrollments.
