SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- Rock102’s 32nd annual Mayflower Marathon raised a record $260,062.39 over 52 hours to fight food insecurity in the community.

The three-day event broke the radio station’s previous donation record, with volunteers collecting four truckloads of food donations for Springfield’s Open Pantry. “It’s been absolutely overwhelming seeing everyone stepping up and really making this a great event,” said Mike Baxendale, co-host of the Bax and Nagle Show.

Baxendale said the event focuses on helping people who face difficult choices between paying utility bills and buying groceries. “For me, it’s pretty motivating to know what we’re actually doing is really changing lives in a lot of ways,” he added.
