A pedestrian was rushed to hospital after being ploughed into by the driver of a car in a horror hit and run on Tuesday evening (November 25).

Police and paramedics were called to reports of the fail to stop crash on Westbrook Way in Burtonwood, Warrington, close to the Asda superstore at around 5.45pm.

Officers at the scene found that the pedestrian, a 45-year-old man had been struck by a silver BMW. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Aintree Hospital where he remains for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle had failed to stop at the scene and fled before emergency crews arrived. A 50-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
