An Essex County woman has filed a lawsuit against the Newark Board of Education, claiming negligence resulted in her 5-year-old daughter being seriously injured at an elementary school in the city.

The child was unsupervised in the playground when an unknown child pulled her off the monkey bars, causing her to fall to the ground, according to the lawsuit, filed in Superior Court in Essex County on Nov. 7.

The girl suffered a severe wrist fracture, along with multiple other fractures and injuries to her forearms, according to the complaint.

The incident occurred Sept. 16, 2024, at the Belmont Runyon Elementary School, the lawsuit says.
