The new leader of the BC Green Party visited the Okanagan last weekend to introduce herself.
While at Tin Whistle Brewing in Penticton on Sunday night, in front of a crowd of about two dozen, Green leader Emily Lowan admits she was “scared shitless” about running for the position as a 24 year old (she’s 25 now).
But Lowan’s work as a climate activist earned her the endorsement of David Suzuki, and she won the 2025 leadership race with 60% of the vote.
To the crowd in Penticton, she promised to be a “thorn in the side” of whichever party is in power. Her goal is to double the party’s seat count from two to four, which will hopefully be enough to hold the balance of power, and use the party’s leverage to implement proportional representation.
