WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Reps. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) and Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) are pressing the Trump administration for answers on the effectiveness and legality of deadly U.S. military strikes targeting suspected drug traffickers at sea.
In a letter sent Wednesday to top administration officials, Scott, McBath, and seven other House Democrats raised concerns about the use of air and naval operations in the Caribbean and Pacific, which they say have killed at least 64 foreign nationals.
The lawmakers questioned whether such strikes actually reduce drug use and drug-related deaths in the United States, citing decades of research showing treatment programs are far more cost-effective than interdiction efforts.
