Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a woman in custody lost a tooth in an altercation with an RCMP officer last month.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says RCMP officers in Gleichen, around 80 kilometres east of Calgary, arrested a woman for mischief on the evening of Oct. 30.
At the time of her arrest, she had blood on her face and told officers she had been beaten. Police advised her that paramedics would be called.
The woman was transported to the detachment, where she again requested an ambulance and was told one had been dispatched.
While being placed in a cell, still handcuffed behind her back, an officer repeatedly ordered her to remove her shoes. The woman swore at the officer and again asked for medical assistance.
