Both are Alberta boys who got heavy minutes at a young age in the Western Hockey League.

Both were drafted high by the Edmonton Oilers , Dubnyk 14th overall in 2004, Skinner 78th overall in 2017.

Both got plenty of seasoning in Edmonton’s minor pro system, four years each, before breaking into the Oilers.

Both had early success with the Oilers before struggling, Dubnyk’s save percentage crashing in his fifth year, which saw him get traded to Nashville, Skinner’s save percentage dropp
