PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. —

A person and two pets have been exposed to rabies in separate South Carolina incidents, according to health officials.

In Pickens County, a skunk tested positive for rabies. The skunk was found near Spirit Mountain Lane and Mt. Frontenac Way in Easley. No people were exposed, however, one dog was exposed and will be quarantined as required in the Rabies Control Act.

The skunk in Pickens County was submitted to DPH’s laboratory for testing on Tuesday and was confirmed to have rabies on Wednesday.

The rabid skunk is the sixth animal to test positive for rabies in Pickens County in 2025. In 2024, Pickens County had six confirmed cases of rabies.
