What began as a simple 911 hang-up call quickly escalated into an armed standoff Tuesday evening on Curry Rise Court, according to the DeLand Police Department.
Body camera video released by police captures the moment officers say the situation turned dangerous. In the footage, a single gunshot is heard before an officer shouts, “Shots fired! Shots fired!”
Police said the officer felt something hit him during the exchange and later discovered a small cut on his neck.
“I’m not sure if she shot herself or shot at me,” the officer is heard saying in a later clip. “I got hit with some sort of shrapnel from something.”
According to investigators, a second gunshot rang out as officers waited for backup. Neighbors said law enforcement quickly filled the street.
