BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - A new report reveals ways the Burlington Electric Department can reduce its carbon footprint at the McNeil Generating Station.
The plant pumps out electricity for the city of Burlington by burning wood chips. But in recent years, biomass has been called into question over whether it is truly carbon neutral.
At Monday’s City Council meeting, a consultant hired by the city presented ways to reduce carbon emissions while keeping electricity affordable for ratepayers. They suggested new technology, including heating wood to a high temperature and not burning it.
