HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle tells WYMT he will meet with Kentucky High School Athletic Association officials in December to discuss information he received about possible sports betting in the 14th region.

In a social media post on the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, KY Facebook page, which can be seen below, Engle stated, “Several weeks ago I was advised of specific information regarding betting on High School basketball games in the 14th Region.”

According to the post, Engle states he attempted to schedule a meeting with Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett after learning about possible betting. A reported photo of that email was attached to the post. The email in the photo was dated Nov. 3, 2025.
