PEMBERVILLE, Ohio — Todd Sheets wanted to try something different this year — a plan that brings a new generation into a celebration of small-town holiday nostalgia.

When Mr. Sheets, a member of the Pemberville Independent Merchants Association, was thinking about volunteers to decorate the old Pember-Furry House as part of a longstanding village tradition, he wondered if those volunteers could be younger this year.

“My thought was, ‘Wouldn’t it be neat to have the young decorate the old,’” Mr. Sheets said.

He enlisted Eastwood High School students Brynn Sheets, Camille Foos, Raegan Russell, and MacKenzie Chaffee to decorate the historic house as part of Pemberville’s annual Christmas in the Village event.
