JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) - The Missouri State High School Activities Association is being investigated after a whistleblower claims he was not allowed to apply for a board position because he is a white man.

The state is investigating MSHSAA for a policy that says two at-large board seats must go to people whose gender or race is “underrepresented” on the board.

Jennifer Rukstad, PhD, is executive director of the MSHSAA. She welcomes the investigation, saying there’s nothing to hide.

“We represent a very diverse and complex state,” Rukstad said. “[The board] wisely said if we are to govern this great, diverse organization, then we should include the perspectives of people who don’t have the same lived experiences as us.”
