A U.S. consumer watchdog is urging riders to immediately stop using some models of Rad Power Bikes e-bikes because of potential fire hazards — but stopped short of a full recall.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) warned that Rad Power e-bikes using battery models RP-1304 and HL-RP-S1304 have been found to be at risk of unexpectedly igniting or exploding — particularly when exposed to water and debris — posing “a risk of serious injury and death.”
Although the company is based in Seattle, the defective batteries were also sold by Canadian retailers, leaving consumers on both sides of the border confused about how to handle CPSC’s notice.
