LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Senior military leaders at Fort Knox continued a long-standing Army tradition this week, stepping behind the serving line to dish out Thanksgiving meals to soldiers, veterans and their families.

Command Sgt. Maj. Alex Licea said the event was a way to show appreciation ahead of the holiday.

“It really is just to celebrate the holiday, thank our soldiers and their families for everything they do for our nation,” Licea said.

For some, the event also brought back personal memories. Kentucky Sen. Matthew Deneen, R-Elizabethtown, shared that his first job was in the Fort Knox mess hall.
