NEW ORLEANS — As officers from Gretna Police and federal immigration agents took down a suspect in front of the Floor & Decor on Wednesday morning, they repeatedly yelled at a man who was filming the scene on his cell phone to back up to a 25-foot buffer zone.
But there is no legal 25-foot buffer zone. The state Legislature passed a 25-foot buffer law in 2024, but it was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge earlier this year and blocked from ever taking effect.
The video, which was shared by Impacto Informativo and other migrant advocacy groups on Facebook, shows a Gretna police officer in a plaid shirt, tactical vest and backwards baseball cap among six officers and masked ICE agents subduing a suspect on the ground.
