ST PAUL, Minn. — A reminder as you prepare your Thanksgiving feasts: Don't dump and fats, oils and grease in your sinks.
Leaders with the Metropolitan Council say it can clog your drain and create a blockage known as a "Fatberg" that can mess up water treatment systems.
"What happens is all the fats, oils and grease coagulate into one big pile, clogs up the whole process of pipes," said Kale Anderson with the Metropolitan Council.
Water treatment employees would have to go in and break up those fatbergs by hand. If that doesn't work then it's costly repairs.
The best way to get rid of the grease is to pour it in a container and toss it.
