Edmonton police say a suspect has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 20-year-old following an alleged assault in Edmonton in May.
The Edmonton Police Service says officers found the victim, later identified as Lovondre Swampy, around 65 Avenue and 172 Street on the evening of May 22. They were responding to the report of an assault.
Authorities allege Swampy refused “support and medical treatment” from police and paramedics.
A week later, he died in Wetaskiwin. An autopsy conducted on June 4 could not determine the manner of death.
EPS homicide detectives took over the investigation given the reported assault on May 22. On Oct. 20, Edmonton’s medical examiner confirmed Swampy died of a homicide, with the cause of death being blunt force trauma.
