The attorney of a 70-year-old New Jersey psychiatrist charged with illegally prescribing Adderall and Xanax said his client has been falsely accused.
David Holbrook, of Bloomsbury in Hunterdon County, was indicted on nine counts of unlawfully distributing and dispensing controlled substances earlier this month, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey said.
Holbrook was released on a $100,000 bond after appearing in federal court earlier this month.
Holbrook prescribed the two drugs to patients “outside the usual course of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose” nine times between January 2021 and October 2022, federal prosecutors allege.
Holbrook’s attorney, Jay V. Surgent, said his client is not guilty and plans to take the case to trial.
