COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster says 300 National Guardsmen will be heading back to the nation's capital for security duty.
McMaster announced Wednesday night that the guardsmen will return to Washington, D.C. next week, but did not give specifics on when that departure would be. The governor said the soldiers will be relieving Georgia guardsmen who in turn relieved them two months ago after the SC Guard's previous deployment to D.C.
Back in August, roughly 250 Guardsmen, including officers and support staff, were sent to D.C. as part of an executive order signed by President Donald Trump and in response to a request from the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon.
The news came on the same day two West Virginia National Guardmembers were shot near the White Hous
