The Salvation Army of Chattanooga is preparing more than 400 Thanksgiving meals for local seniors who are considered “shut-ins.” Volunteers will spend Thanksgiving morning delivering the meals to senior living towers across the city.

Some residents previously received Thanksgiving food boxes, but many are unable to leave their buildings to pick them up.

“It is very important to us that we make sure we are serving everyone in the community who needs help. A lot of times, our senior citizens are overlooked even though they are a vulnerable population,” said Major Douglas McClure.

Volunteers will meet at 800 McCallie Avenue at 9:00am on Thursday to load up meals and desserts before heading out to deliver them.
