WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Hard at work, Watertown’s Salvation Army volunteers are preparing nearly 2,000 meals for this Thanksgiving, consisting of all the Thanksgiving staples.

The meals are offered for free at the State Street building and delivered across all of Jefferson County.

“It’s just awesome to watch them walk through the door and sit down, enjoy their meal, have a good time,” said volunteer Sylvia Brase.

And this year they’re cooking extra. They’re offering 800 more meals than last year, something officials did to help the growing number of people struggling financially this Thanksgiving.

“So SNAP benefits people are starting to recover, but there’s still a need, right? There’s still a need for food. So we’re preparing for much more,” said Watertown Salvation Army Captain
