WAVERLY, Iowa — The Bremer Avenue Bridge in Waverly has reopened after more than a year of closures, detours, and construction delays. The bridge opened two days ahead of schedule, restoring a vital connection through the town's center.
Drivers can now cross the bridge without detours for the first time in over a year. Construction crews completed the final phase earlier than planned, just in time for the busy holiday shopping season.
Local businesses are optimistic about the reopening, expecting it to bring back customers and rejuvenate the area. "I definitely think it will pick back up, especially with the Christmas hometown coming soon," Harmony Reingardt, a barista at Scooter's, said. "I'm excited to see what business this brings."
