16-year search for military plaque ends in dusty corner of Detroit museum

Detroit — Jeff Ortiz was going through an uncle’s belongings in 2009 when he learned Bobby Ortiz's name was on a plaque honoring the sailors who died when the USS Indianapolis was attacked during World War II.

When he tried to find where the memorial was displayed, however, he was flummoxed. It was nowhere to be found.
