A boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Escondido on Wednesday evening, police said.

The crash happened near the intersection of East Washington Avenue and North Hickory Street shortly after 5 p.m., according to the Escondido Police Department.

Police say the boy, believed to be around 5 years old, was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital.

Due to conflicting witness accounts, officials were unable to provide a description of the vehicle or the suspect.
