November is Native American Heritage Month, and with mass-produced knockoffs on the rise, experts say it's more important than ever to buy authentic Indigenous-made jewelry.

At the Indian Pueblo Store, inside the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, sales representative Shane Smith says authenticity protects both buyers and the artists whose work supports their livelihoods.

"I always tell people buy directly from the artists," he said, "That way you know you're getting authentic and genuine."

He says to look for a signature; most artists sign or etch their name or initials into their pieces.
