A warning has been issued to people working from home - as HMRC could force you to pay £20,000. A HMRC worker has been ordered to pay £20,000 after refusing to return to the taxman's office after the Covid lockdown.
Martin Bentley is said to have been “prepared to use whatever means he could” to avoid returning to the office. Mr Bentley attempted to sue HMRC for disability discrimination.
But the tribunal in Liverpool in the North West of England this week ruled there was “no medical reason” for him not to return to work. He has now been ordered to pay an eye-watering and jaw-dropping £20,000.

It comes after a tribunal judge found he had acted “vexatiously” in bringing the proceedings
