When Amy Farah Weiss posted on the Santa Fe Foodies Facebook group she was seeking help for this year’s Thanksgiving meal at Santa Fe Suites, the response was almost immediate.
In about a week the meal had been planned for residents at the affordable and transitional housing complex, many of whom previously lived on the streets. Farah Weiss eventually heard from so many people who wanted to volunteer Thanksgiving Day that she had to turn people away.
“There was just a real community spirit,” said Farah Weiss, founder of the homelessness-focused nonprofit Saint Francis Challenge.
Thanksgiving comes amid uncertainty for many residents at Santa Fe Suites, following delays from the city in providing funding to cover their housing costs through the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Santa Fe off
