HPU women win first game of season

Mia Frye scored 16 points and Lucia Ricci grabbed 12 rebounds as the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team beat Cal State East Bay 63-55 on Wednesday at St. Francis’ Shark Tank.

Kyra Tanabe had five steals for the Sharks (1-3).

Sierra Morris had 11 points for the Pioneers (0-4).

>> Bri Claxon scored 17 points and Kate Ratliff added 12 as Gannon (Pa.) defeated Hawaii Hilo 54-31 in the Big Island Classic at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Tavina Harris finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Vulcans (2-3), who trailed 21-18 at halftime.

The Golden Knights (7-1) are ranked No. 7 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
