Kash Daley scored 15 points and Ronin Naihe added 14 as No. 2 Kahuku closed out with a 14-3 run for a 61-49 win over No. 6 ‘Iolani on the opening night of the Punahou Invitational.
Daley, Naihe and point guard Tiki Akina-Watson were in deep foul trouble late in the third quarter while ‘Iolani rallied, cutting an 11-point deficit to one, 47-46.
Sophomore Justus Daley stepped up with two key 3-pointers in the second half while Kahuku’s relentless man defense converged on ‘Iolani’s attack. The situation seemed dire for Kahuku, but the 10th grader was calm, cool and collected.
“I’ve just … stay ready to shoot. We work on it at practice. When our starters were in foul trouble, I was ready,” he said.
