Michael W. Perry and Brickwood Galuteria defend Gov. Josh Green’s plan to employ liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a “bridge” fuel to transition to 100% clean renewable energy (“ Liquid natural gas is smart energy path ,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices, Nov. 16). Hawaii has set a goal of net negative greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, but LNG doesn’t get us there.
LNG is a fossil fuel that emits greenhouse gases to generate energy. The Hawaii State Energy Office (HSEO) has issued a plan that expands the use of LNG until 2045, but HSEO does not have a plan to subsequently replace LNG with clean renewable energy. Neither do Perry or Galuteria.
