The number of asylum seekers living in hotels has risen again as the amount of visas issued to foreign workers coming to Britain plummets, new figures have revealed.
There were 36,273 migrants staying in hotels at taxpayer expense in September - up 13% or 4,232 people - compared to June, data from the Home Office shows.
But far fewer people are coming to Britain on work visas.
The number of work-related visas has decreased over the last two years, largely due to the amount of people coming to work in health sectors.
There were 17,000 health and care visas issued in the latest year, down 89% from the peak in the year ending December 2023, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released on Thursday.
