NISSWA — After a 3-2 vote, the Nisswa City Council will continue to pursue the idea of enacting a local option sales tax, or LOST, in the city to fund city park improvements.

Mayor Jennifer Carnahan and council member Joe Hall were opposed.

The approval at the regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 18, doesn't impose the tax. Rather, the process can now continue, with several approvals still necessary to have voters ultimately decide whether to impose the city tax.

Next, staff will finalize documents to submit to the state Legislature. In January, requests would be filed with the House and Senate tax committees.

Then, if the Legislature approves the tax request, the council would have to adopt another resolution accepting the new law.
