A recall has been issued for Locatelli grated Pecorino Romano cheese sold at Wegmans Food Markets with the store’s scale label after the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes was detected.
Ambriola Co. of West Caldwell, New Jersey, also issued a recall of grated Pecorino Romano cheese due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. That cheese was distributed to retail stores nationwide between Nov. 3 and Nov. 20, according to a company announcement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in children, older adults, pregnant people and people with weakened immune systems, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture .
