VAN NUYS – A pedestrian walking on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys was killed. This occurred after they were struck by a vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.
CHP officers responded at 10:12 p.m. Wednesday to the southbound freeway and Victory Boulevard.
There, they learned the victim was walking in the HOV lane when the vehicle struck the person, according to a CHP spokesman.
The victim — whose name, gender and age was not immediately known — was pronounced dead at the scene. This was confirmed by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
The CHP issued a SigAlert that closed the HOV lane and three lanes of the southbound freeway at the Victory exit. It remained closed for three hours while they investigated the cause of the collision.
