GAINESVILLE, Ga. — As the battle between Gainesville High and the Georgia High School Association over 30+ suspensions to Gainesville players and the future of their playoff quarterfinal tilt with Langston Hughes keeps finding new ways to escalate, an influential state lawmaker is weighing in.

Wednesday saw a judge lift the suspensions, a legal victory for Gainesville — only for the GHSA to announce it was filing an appeal and postponing the game against Langston Hughes until such an appeal is sorted.

The judge notified the GHSA at Wednesday's hearing they could try to seek an appeal with the state appellate court — a court that typically takes six to eight months to reach a decision on a case, if it is docketed.
