GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- More than 6,000 runners, walkers and rollers warmed up for their marathon Thanksgiving meal with the 33rd annual Grand Rapids Public Schools Turkey Trot.

Despite the winter weather advisory, the event had a record-breaking 6,529 participants on Thursday, Nov. 27, raising almost $300,000 for GRPS athletics programs and collecting food for various food banks across Grand Rapids.

Turkey trotters ran for various causes this Thanksgiving, both personal and philanthropic.

MyTeam Triumph, a group of runners who partner with people with disabilities so they can experience endurance events like the holiday 5K, kicked off the race.

Bruce Babcock, 78, ran for a simple reason: tradition.
