More than 3,000 runners and walkers this morning woke up early to burn off extra calories before their Thanksgiving Day feasts.

The 21st annual SMT Turkey Trot 5k run/walk and Cranberry Challenge took participants on a course through the borough of New Cumberland, beginning and ending at borough park.

The Cranberry Challenge is a challenge within the Turkey Trot 5k that involves carrying odd objects, completing bodyweight exercises and moving weights at various obstacles within the course.

In keeping with the Thanksgiving theme, overall male and female winners received a family-sized turkey. Top male and female finishers win gift cards to Chaka Crossfit.
